Why Luis Robert is the next great 5-tool player

Man I wish former White Sox broadcaster and legend Ken “Hawk” Harrelson was in the booth today. He’d be saying “Put it on the booooooooooaaaard, yes!” for a long time this season because of one man. Luis Robert. Of course, he holds the coveted spot of being compared to the GOAT in Mike Trout because he’s a fantastic 5-tool player. He deserves every right to be compared to him, with all due respect to Trout. Today, I’ll be breaking him down and telling you why he’s the next great man to anything well on a baseball diamond. Without further ado, let’s get things going.

Robert is the 4th active player on the White Sox that’s Cuban, along with Jose Abreu, Yoan Moncada and the newly signed Yasmani Grandal. The White Sox have been known to sign elite Cuban players, with one of the first being Minnie Miñoso. He’s arguably the best player in baseball not to be in the Hall of Fame. Certainly Robert will likely overtake Miñoso’s crown of the best Cuban on the Sox, but not just that. He’ll have the chance to be the best player in White Sox history. That’s because, as I mentioned earlier, he’s a 5-tool player. That means that he’s good at hitting for contact, hitting for power, fielding, arm strength and flying around on the base paths. Last season, he rose up the minor league rankings quickly. In case you don’t know what I’m talking about, unlike the NBA and NFL where they throw you right onto a pro team, the MLB puts you through the 4 levels of the Minor Leagues. They consist of Rookie Ball, Single A, Double A, Triple A and then of course, the Majors. It can be a long grind for a player to rise through the rankings, but Robert shot up A, AA, and AAA in just one season. That alone shows how talented he is in the eyes of the White Sox front office, including their GM Rick Hahn. But now, let’s get into his stats in the minors and the majors.

In his final year in the minors (unless he somehow gets sent back down), he had a .328 average, 32 home runs and 92 RBI’s throughout his bulldozing of the Minor League levels. So far in 19 games in the Majors this year, Robert has a .274 average, 2 home runs and 9 RBI’s along with 4 stolen bases. Now, I know that a really small sample size but just imagine what his end of season numbers will be. Personally, I think he’ll have an average of about .298, 15 total home runs and 30 total RBI’s by the end of this 60-game season, barring no injury scenario takes place.

If there isn’t enough prove to tell you that Robert is the next great prodigy, he has a TikTok account. It seems like he has fun off of the field just as much as he does on it. Speaking of on-the-field fun, in Summer Camp, his teammate Carlos Rodon throws him an inside fastball. Robert seemed very shocked and jarred by this pitch that as he hits the ball, he falls down. Then, the unthinkable happens. The ball goes over the fence for a home run. Who does that? Robert hit a home run FALLING DOWN!!!????? I have nothing else to say here other than watch out for this dude to be an ICON!
